Charlie Smith Prayer Letter
October and November are our Spring months and that means weird weather and allergies. Today it is in the low 60’s with the sun shining; a few days ago, it was 90. Sunday it was a day of rain. Isn’t it odd how the weather changes and some will have an excuse to stay home? Keep our folks in prayer as they are just like those up north – if it is for a football game or family activity – the weather does not matter, however if the weather is not just right then they stay home from church.
On the positive side, we have two who are praying and working at winning some of their friends and coworkers to Christ. What an exciting time for me to see their enthusiasm. When you have a nice sized congregation, small changes sometimes go unnoticed but when there are only eleven the growth is more noticeable. Please pray for Rosa and a co-worker of Carlos that their hearts will be open to Christ soon. We see spiritual growth in most of those who have been coming and praise God for what He is doing in their lives. The desire is to feed them in such a way that they will reproduce – II Timothy 2:2.
Last Monday evening, at a pastors’ prayer meeting, the pastor who makes deposits into the accounts of Argentine national pastors and missionaries told me of their reactions about the funds which some of you gave designated for their needs. It was overwhelming to hear how they glorified God by being blessed from churches, which they will never meet, who demonstrated love through sacrificial giving. The amount of funds that you all gave meant that each Argentine pastor (19) received 200 pesos (a good days wage). Thank you each for giving to some of God’s finest servants. Each one gave God the glory for His love that you all shared - 2 Cor. 1:11.
In 1987, when I accompanied my Pastor to a fellowship meeting in Cody Wyoming, God called me to the ministry. I remember that sweet day as if it was yesterday. Saying yes was one of the best decisions that I ever made. Well, I was blessed with the other side of the coin, to preach a message at the Fundamentalismo (a meeting of independent Baptists from different South American countries) that God used to call an Argentine to the ministry. Th e message God burdened my heart to preach was the difference of being a man or a man of God (I Corinthians 16:13-14). Thank you for praying; God answered with ease of preaching and a time of sweet fellowship.
The Lord has allowed us to purchase a ten-year-old used car, praise God. Thank you for praying and providing for this need. In its first week, it was used on five separate occasions for transporting visiting pastors and missionaries to airports and sister churches. It was a joy to fellowship with these servants of God.
There are two present material needs for prayer. Th e fi rst: we still are searching for a place to meet for services, as our apartment really is not adequate, especially for children who make noise like children. The second: is deciding if God wishes us to continue the printing ministry. It has been a great blessing to us. The printer has printed more than one million eight hundred thousand copies of tracts and discipleship materials. If we are to continue, we need a new machine, as replacement parts are no longer available. We have never charged more than the cost of the printed material so that the Argentine churches would have tracts at a cost that most could afford. There are places in the States that send tracts free, however they are written in a different Spanish dialect than we speak and are not well received. Most of the tracts and materials we print are written by Argentines.
There are two spiritual battles coming up as well in which we need prayer. November 17 is a meeting “Honor to Israel”. We shall be helping a Baptist missionary to the Jewish people with this special meeting and are praying that God will bring more than 100 in attendance. Th en November 18 – 20 we shall be going to hear a guest preacher as he teaches pastors during the day and has special meetings in the evening, hopefully some from our congregation will attend,. Would you please pray that 2 Thessalonians 3:1 be fulfilled? Th ere is nothing we can do, other than pray and we ask you to pray with us over these four impossibilities (Luke 1:37). I love praying to God for impossibilities – isn´t He great? Thank you so very much for your love for our Savior and the blessing we have received because of that love.
